How we help

Paper 1 asks you to choose one of three prompts and write a structured response in an appropriate text type — an article, blog, letter, speech, or report. SL responses run 250–400 words; HL responses run 450–600 words, with markers looking for accurate, varied vocabulary and real awareness of audience, purpose, and text-type conventions.
25% of final gradePaper 2 combines listening (25%) and reading (25%) comprehension: three audio passages testing understanding across different situations, and three written texts testing detail, inference, and fact from opinion. We drill both skills under timed conditions until the format stops being the obstacle.
50% of final gradeThe oral is worth 25% of the final grade. SL students respond to a visual stimulus tied to a course theme; HL students respond to an extract from one of their two studied literary works. Either way, we run mock orals until the presentation and follow-up discussion feel natural, not rehearsed.
25% of final gradeHL only. HL students study two literary works originally written in Spanish, which then feed directly into the Individual Oral — examiners expect genuine literary analysis, not just conversation practice. We build close, exam-ready knowledge of both texts well before the oral.

Yes. Paper 1, Paper 2, and the Individual Oral are covered at both levels — HL adds longer written responses and two studied literary works that feed into the oral — all timed to your school's assessment calendar.
Ab Initio is for true beginners with little or no prior Spanish. Spanish B is for students who already have some background in the language. If you're not sure which course you're enrolled in, check with your IB coordinator.
